Admission Procedure to the Master Studies “Applied Geoinformatics”

Geoinformatics at the University of Salzburg is offered as a graduate programme accessible based on a range of undergraduate qualifications. Bachelor level graduates from ‘spatially oriented disciplines’ like Geography, Surveying / Geomatics, Geoinformatics or Cartography can be admitted without additional coursework. Candidates with a bachelor level or higher qualification in other relevant fields like computer science, ecology, geosciences, environmental sciences, social sciences of economics can be 'conditionally' admitted with additional credit requirements of up to 45 ECTS.

This master programme is a two year program in English language. 

Funding needs to be assured prior to the registration at the university. The Austrian Agency for international mobility (OEAD) has a database providing information on scholarships for international students: National funding organizations can be considered as well. 

Admission Procedure
The admission procedure starts with the application for admission, or a pre-registration for first-time students at PLUS. The application consists of the application form for admission and the required documents: 
  • Application Form for Admission: The website with the application form for admission to master studies is available here (“Application for Admission Master Programme"): application form.
  • Required Documents for Admission: The following documents have to be provided together with the application form for admission (in original form or as a certified copy):
    • Degree award of the completed studies;
    • transcript including all grades;
    • Curriculum of the completed studies.
For evaluating the application a detailed documentation of the course contents of the accomplished degree is necessary (e.g., diploma supplement or curriculum). English translations of these documents are accepted. These documents can first be sent via Email for evaluation through the University of Salzburg. When the evaluation comes to a positive result, the original documents have to be provided. The original documents have to be provided at the registration office of the University at the occasion of an appointment, that is  assigned during online preregistration.

In case the admission is conditional and additional credits have to be earned during the studies, the applicant will be contacted by the University.

As a general rule the applicants already completed the bachelor’s or other degree before they apply for admission to the Master program.

Dates for Admission
Students from third countries have to submit their application for admission (including the admission form and documents) until:
  • February 1st for the summer term,
  • September 1st for the winter term.
Students from within the EU can submit their application for admission (including the admission form and documents) also during a grace period. Until the end of the grace period the payment of tuition fees respectively the contribution to the study union have to be completed. The grace periods end:
  • April 30 for the summer term,
  • November 30 for the winter term.
Tuition Fees
Depending on the progress in your studies and your country of origin, tuition fees may have to be paid. Information on if you have to pay tuition fees or not can be found here.
